The day before the launch
We sat on the couch watching Empire. It’s been Empire for the past one week and we’ve made it to season 5. But her attention was far from the TV screen as she demanded a hug and warm tears fell on my back.
Tomorrow morning, my new startup takes flight. By evening of tomorrow also, her latest idea and webinar takes off. As we kept watching the numbers on both our potential list of starting customers remain regrettably low, it’s hard to not get a little sober.
We’ve all been at this point before. Where it’s the day before the big event or launch or deal and everything seems not to be adding up. As we stayed on a long hug, she was reassured the webinar would be a success and she would be able to pull off one or two sales of her new book. She also knew somehow her two remaining scheduled webinars for this month would be better. For me, I hatched a small plan to start anyway regardless of the poor numbers so far.
Ads haven’t been very productive for us. We’ve pumped money into Facebook ads and well, we are not impressed. We don’t have the drive (or money) to throw into Google AdWords or LinkedIn ads or Twitter sponsored posts or promoted posts on Instagram. So we are starting anyway. The numbers will climb. We know that because there is always a little dip before the spikes go sky high.
That’s how entrepreneurs pick up themselves after one dip. We keep keeping on. What are we if we quit anyway?
We’ve been here before. I’ve had bigger launch days, she’s had even more bigger launch days. Last week, she ordered products and she’s sold 80% of them now. That’s how gritty she could be with business. Last week, I pulled off the amazing project and it came with huge returns. That’s entrepreneurship. We’ll always ride the waves.
